Society of Saint Pius X
Major Sect: Disputed Apostolic Authority

Founded in the year 1969 by Archbiship Marcel Lefebvre

It is now 50 years old.

SSPX considers itself part of the Roman Catholic Church founded by Christ but has been in some form of separation for decades. In 2010 Mead's Handbook of Denomination listed it as a separate denomination and since the papacy of Pope Francis, SSPX has condemned all of Vatican II as evil and denied the infallibility of the canonizations of John Paul II and John XXIII. The best explanation of their position and situation may be found in Pope Paul VI's 1976 letter to Archbishop Lefebvre available here.
