Methodist

Founded in the year 1739 by John and Charles Wesley

This Major Sect is 280 years old.

Beginning as a Pietist movement within the Church of England in the 1730s, Methodism expanded greatly under the leadership of the Wesley brothers who wrote and preached on the need for a personal experience of salvation and change of life. The first Methodists were a small group of Oxford students who got their name because of their regimen of prayer, fasting, bible reading, and charitable works inspired by the writings of William Law.
