Christian (Stone-Campbell Movement)

Founded in the year 1809 by Thomas Campbell

This Major Sect is 210 years old.

When the views against specific creeds and confessions were censured by the Presbyterian Church of which he was a minister, he founded a church that matched his views. The basic view is that the bible, regardless of 2 Peter 3:15-16, was a book that any reasonable person could read and understand. Therefore, there is no need for creeds. In 1812, the son of the founder convinced him that his belief in infant baptism was not so reasonable and the family was baptized by a Baptist minister even though they did not consider the Baptists to be biblical enough. Barton Stone had founded a similar church and in 1832 they merged with a few other founders of like-minded churches.
