Brethren and Pietist

Founded in the year 1690 by Jakob Philip Spener

This Major Sect is 329 years old.

The founder decried the intellectualism, factionalism and ineffectiveness of the Protestant churches and he wanted to take Lutherís Reformation to a further morale and spiritual level. As this new faction of Protestantism spread it greatly influenced John Wesley (who would add the additional faction of Methodists). The Pietist movement helped to fuel the First Great Awakening in the United States during the 1740s
